Dr. García-Meca holds a degree in Business Administration from the Universidad de Murcia (1998) (Special Degree Award). She got her European Ph.D. (2003) with Outstanding Ph.D. award. She is a Full Professor at the UPCT in the department of Economy, Accounting and Finance.
Dr. García-Meca has three recognized research periods (the latest from 2014-2019). Her research lines are focused on: voluntary disclosure, corporate social responsibility and sustainability, gender diversity, and corporate governance. Her research has been published in numerous articles in scientific journals included in the Journal Social Science Citation Index and Scopus. As a result of her research work, Dr. García-Meca appears in the Stanford Ranking of the top 2% cited researchers in 2020 and 2021. This recognition can be added to others she has received, such as the Premio Accésit Especial from the Centro de Estudios Financieros, the Premio Carlos Cubillo for short research projects, or the Premio Accésit from the Fundación de Estudios Financieros. She has co-directed four Ph.D. dissertations awarded Cum Laude.
As an expert in corporate governance, she has given talks and seminars in Master¿s and PhD programs at different Spanish universities (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad de Murcia, Universidad de Valladolid, Universidad de Valencia, Universidad de Granada) and foreign universities (University of Aarhus, University of Ottawa, Universidad de Antioquía, HEC Montreal). She has participated in 6 competitive national and regional research projects and has served as Lead Researcher in 2 national projects dealing with corporate governance and gender diversity (the latest from 2018-2021). She is also the director of research group supported by the Fundación Maruri Hergar in collaboration with the Publisher CEF, working on the project ¿Executive Females for Sustainability¿ and the lead of the project GELESMAT (gender and leadership for sustainability), with researchers fron national and international universities.
Along with her participation in other editorial committees, Dr. García Meca is a member of the editorial committee of the Revista Española de Financiación y Contabilidad (JCRQ4) and Associate Editor (since 2011) of the Spanish Accounting Review (JCRQ3). In addition, she is an expert research project evaluator for the Ministerio Ciencia y Evaluación and the Agencia Andaluza de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación Universitaria and member ofthe national committee of evaluation of the academic research CNEAI in 2021 and 2022. She is the Vice President of the Asociación Española de Profesores Universitarios de Contabilidad (ASEPUC), national representative of the European Accounting Association (EAA), and SIG Officer in the Strategic Interest Group of Corporate Governance of EURAM (European Association of Management).
She has been a visiting researcher at the University of Aarhus (Denmark), University of Glasgow (Scotland), University College of Dublin (Ireland), and HEC Montreal (University of Montreal, Canada). Finally, in terms of her management activities, she has been the Director of the School of Tourism at the UPCT and Vice Dean of International Relations in the Business Faculty at the UPCT.
