Academic Background

I hold an MSc in Industrial Engineering (2003) and a PhD from the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), which I completed in 2003 with a dissertation titled "Modelling of the Wind Power Fluctuations in Large Offshore Wind Farms." My PhD was supervised by Antonio Viedma Robles and co-supervised by Poul Ejnar Sørensen.

Research and Academic Career

My research career began with a 3-month traineeship in the Department of General Energy at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) in Switzerland. Following this, I received an "Introduction to Research" grant and subsequently a 4-year PhD position in the Fluid Mechanics unit at UPCT.

My doctoral research was conducted in cooperation with the Wind Energy Department of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), a world-renowned centre in its field. This collaboration was part of the Danish research project "PSO Effektfluctuationer fra store havindmølleparker" and involved extensive research stays totalling over 15 months at DTU.

After obtaining my PhD, I worked as a researcher for the Wind Energy Department of the Renewable Energies Research Institute at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) until 2012. Simultaneously, I was hired as a Part-Time Lecturer by UCLM, teaching in the fluid mechanics unit.

Since 2013, I have been an Associate Professor in the Hydraulic Engineering unit at UPCT. I have taught various courses mainly in the BSc in Civil Engineering, the MSc in Civil Engineering, and the MSc in Mining Engineering.

I have also served as a guest professor/lecturer at Høgskolen i Østfold (Norway), Syddansk Universitet (Denmark), and the University of Jaén (Spain).

University Leadership and Roles

I have held several leadership positions at UPCT, including Vice-Dean of International Relations (2016-2018) and Dean (2018-2022) for the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Mining Engineering.

Since 2024, I have been the Sustainability Coordinator at UPCT, with responsibilities primarily in areas related to Water, Energy, and Mobility.

Research Stays (postdoctoral) and Collaboration

I have started a collaboration with the "Urban Water Systems" research group at DTU Sustain through two research stays for 3 months in 2019 and 12 months in 2022/23.

Research Groups and Affiliations

I am a member of the Research Group in Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (Hidr@m) at UPCT, of the Open Street Map Foundation and of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR).

Research Output and Projects

I have participated in over 80 research projects, including more than 45 publicly-funded projects and 35 R&D contracts. I have acted as the Principal Investigator (PI) in 16 of these projects. The total secured funding amounts to approximately ¿7 million. My research primarily focuses on Urban Hydraulics and Wind Energy Integration.

My research activity has been recognized with three Six-Year Research Terms (CNEAI).

Publications and Impact

I am the author of 29 publications in international journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). These publications are in a variety of high-impact journals; 12 are in the first quartile (Q1) and 11 in the second quartile (Q2).

Regarding the impact of my work:

According to Google Scholar: over 1 520 citations and an h-index of 20.

According to Scopus: 931 citations and an h-index of 15.

I actively contribute to the academic community as a peer reviewer, having reviewed more than 75 articles for JCR-indexed journals across more than 20 different publications.

Supervision

I have supervised two Doctoral Theses and 39 Final Degree Projects (Bachelor's and Master's Theses).
