© 2014 IEEE.This paper presents a tapered and chirped Koch fractal electromagnetic bandgap (KFEBG) structure in microstrip technology that allows achieving a low-pass filter response with improved performance in the passband and stopband regions. Several distribution functions are applied to the Koch fractal patterns etched in the ground plane, together with the width of the microstrip line. Measurement and simulation results are in good agreement and show a flat response in the passband and a wide rejection band in the stopband for the selected Cauchy distribution function.
