The stability of the electrical systems is a major issue, speccially with the increasing levels of wind penetration. Isolated systems, or systems with weak interconnections with surrounding areas with high amounts of installed wind capacity may experience important stability problems due to the stochastic nature of the wind. The aim of this work is to assess the stability of a power system with high wind penetration level under very high wind conditions. A validated offshore wind farm model, developed by the authors, is used to obtain the wind generated power. Typical models of conventional generation plants have been used to fulfill the system operation requirements.
