A patient supervision system in progress for intensive and coronary care units, focused on patients with acute myocardial infarct is briefly described particularly regarding the role that fuzzy logic is playing in its design, and why this is so. Copyright © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. A patient supervision system has been developed to support intensive coronary care units (ICCU) for patients with acute myocardial infarct. The system is a hybrid system, composed of multiple and heterogeneous agents that are coordinated to solve complex tasks in a cooperative manner. Fuzzy set theory is used for the representation of, and reasoning on temporal events, mainly in those stages dealing with signal processing and perception, which in turn, support the realization of other tasks.
