Active contour model algorithm for tracking endocardiac boundaries in echocardiographic sequences

A local minimization method of the active contour energy and a new external force, called hybrid force are proposed. The hybrid force brings together balloon force and Gradient Vector Flow (GVF) force obtained from a GVF field of reduced diffusion. By decreasing the number of iterations of the GVF field computational process, a non-optimum solution is derived. Errors made when adopting such an approximation are acceptable, significantly decreasing the computational time.
