Arrythmia monitoring using fuzzy reasoning

A process for arrhythmia diagnosis is described. This proceas has been implemented in a real-time monitoring system for physiological signals, developed for patients in coronary care units (CCUs). Two different solutions were used: beat-by-beat analysis for fuzzy diagnosis of those arrhythmias which are clearly identified with beat sequences or patterns; and electrocardiogram (ECG) frequency-domain confirmation of segments suspected of containing lethal arrhythmias, the detection of which is not viable from a beat-by-beat analysis. Results of the analysis of a set of 10-min ECG registers, extracted from 45-min magnetic tape recording corresponding to 31 patients in a CCU, are presented.
