Francisco Artés Calero

Agricultural Engineer PhD (Universidad Politécnica de Valencia). Refrigeration Engineer (Institut Français du Froid Industriel, Paris). Professor Emeritus of Food Technology of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) since 2016. Scientific Researcher of the Spanish High Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). Specialized in Postharvest Technology in the Laboratoire de Physiologie des Organes Végétaux Aprés Recolte-CNRS (Paris) and in the University of California, Davis, and in Food Technology in the Universities of Paris-VII, Murcia and Politécnica de Valencia. 

 He has been Professor of Masters and Doctorate at the Polytechnic Universities of Madrid and Valencia and at the Universities of Murcia and Elche. He has taught courses and conferences on postharvest technology, refrigeration engineering, cold storage, transportation, minimal processing and safety of refrigeration facilities in several Spanish and international Universities. and Centers. His 780-plus publications (259 in JCR-SCI and peer reviewed journals, h index Wok 45 and Scopus 47) cover many aspects of plant food metabolism, quality, handling, cold storage, controlled and modified atmosphere storage, postharvest treatments and minimal processing of fruit and vegetables). He has directed 30 Doctoral Thesis and 91 Master Thesis and Final Degree Projects. He has been President of the Organising Committee of 7 International Congress or Scientific Meetings. He is member of the Editorial board of the Postharvest Biology and Technology Journal and of the International Journal of Refrigeration.

 Elected positions: Director of the Center for Applied Biology CEBAS-CSIC in Murcia (1992-1994). Member of the Center Board of EPSO-Polytechnic University of Valencia (1995/97), of the ETSIA-UPCT (2000/16) and of the Senate and Governing Board of the UPCT (2004/16). Director of the Institute of Plant Biotechnology (2001/16) and of the Postharvest and Refrigeration Group at the UPCT (2000/16). He was Vice-President (1996/2000) and President (2000/2003) of the Food Science and Engineering Commission of the International Institute of Refrigeration (Paris), co-founder and President (2005/2007) of the Ibero-American Association of Postharvest Technology (México), and co-founder and Vice-President of the Spanish Association of Refrigeration Science and Technology (since 2002). He was Councilor of Industry and Economy of the Region of Murcia and President of his Institute of Development (1984/1992). 

International recognitions: Prize of the International Institute of Refrigeration (The Hague, 1995); Foreign Correspondent Member of the Académie d'Agriculture de France (Paris, 2003); Honorary Member of the International Institute of Refrigeration (Washington, 2003). Medal of the International Society for Horticultural Science (Leuven, 2016). Prix of the Ibero-American Association of Postharvest Technology (2017). Prix of the Agronomical Sciences Faculty of the University of Chile (Santiago, 2019).
