© 2017 IEEE. Generic models provided by the recently released IEC 61400-27-1 have involved the development of a new area of study, that intends to approximate the behavior of these models to field data or to previously tested models. In order to have a better understanding of the operation of these models, the simplification that is followed to obtain the generator system based on a DFIG configuration is shown. Aiming at the widespread use of these generic models, this paper offers a comparison between a Type 3 generic wind turbine model, implemented in MATLAB/Simulink, and a build-in DFIG model which is included in the standard library of DIgSILENT-PowerFactory. This comparison is based on the guidelines provided by the IEC 61400-27-1, and hence, a properly validation method of the results is introduced.
