We present a substrate integrated waveguide implementation of a leaky-wave antenna that can be easily designed to reduce the beam squint. For this purpose, an arrangement of transversely coupled Fabry-Pérot cavities is proposed. A simple and accurate Transverse Equivalent Network is developed to analyze this structure, and simple design expressions are obtained from Transverse Resonance Equations. A two-resonator antenna scanning at an angle of 30° around 15GHz is illustrated, showing that the convenient location of the posts allows flexible control over the frequency-beam-scanning response. The theory is validated with full-wave simulations, demonstrating the reduction of the beam squint and the upgrade to double instantaneous bandwidth (6.6%) for a 2 nd-order design. © 2013 European Microwave Association.
