Born in Cartagena, he holds a Master's Degree in Civil Engineer (specialized in Foundation and Structural Engineering) from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) since 1997. His professional experience has been developed since then (and since 2009 as a freelance) until 2014 in the area of Structural Engineering, mainly in the design and site assistance of bridges and Civil Engineering structures, although he has also developed computer applications for structural analysis, carried out works of structural pathology and designed structures for singular buildings.
In parallel to his professional practice, he received his PhD in 2007 from the UPM with the thesis " A study on the Structural Behavior of Spatial Arch Bridges" (https://oa.upm.es/812/), advised by Prof. Javier Manterola.
In 2010 he started teaching at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT). In addition, he was invited as Visiting Professor at the School of Civil Engineering of Ciudad Real, where he took over the course on "Structural Typology" from Prof. José Antonio Torroja. Since the end of 2014 he is a full-time professor (currently Associate Professor) in the Department of Mining and Civil Engineering at UPCT. He is in charge, among others, of the "Bridge Engineering" and "Structural Typology" courses, and collaborates in the "Concrete Construction" and "Steel and Concrete-Steel Structures" courses of the Civil Engineering Master program.
Between August 2015 and February 2016 he was invited as Visiting Fellow, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University (USA), where, besides research, he also taught the subject "Elements of Conceptual Design and Analysis of Structures" along with Professor Maria Garlock.
In 2017 he founded at UPCT the New Structural Typologies Research Group (NEST), which he leads as Principal Investigator.
He has received, among others, the Extraordinary PhD Award from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the José Entrecanales Ibarra Award and the National Association of Independent Builders (ANCI) Award.
He is a member of the Spanish Association of Structural Engineering (ACHE), the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) and the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), among others.
Always concerned about the dissemination of civil engineering among young people, he has directed, for 5 editions, the summer course "The fields of Civil Engineering" and is a regular collaborator since 2013 of the Scientific Campus of the UPCT and the Science Week of Murcia, leading the "Workshop of construction of models of towers and bridges".
