His teaching and research activities proceed from two stages:
From 1990 to 1995: This period was his first research experience at the Institut d¿Électronique de Microélectronique et de Nanotechnologie (IEMN) at the Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille (USTL) in France. During his time at IEMN, he was awarded a scholarship to pursue a doctoral thesis. He gained experience in using circuital and electromagnetic simulation tools as well as relevant equipment for the fabrication and electromagnetic characterization of RF/microwave devices. Additionally, he established connections with an R&D group at Alcatel Alsthom (Marcoussis, France), where he conducted several research stays and worked on tasks related to his thesis. He also worked under an R&D contract for Thomson Hybride (France) from January 1991 to December 1991.
From 1999 to the present: In September 1999, he joined the Department of Electronics, Computer Technology, and Projects (ETCP) at the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) as an interim associate professor. He continues to carry out his teaching and research activities at UPCT. In January 2003 and November 2021, he achieved the positions of associate professor and full professor, respectively, through competitive selection processes. His incorporation into UPCT was tied to the university¿s creation in 1998 and the launch of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación (ETSIT), where he actively contributes to teaching, research, and administrative tasks. In March 2000, he founded the R&D group Devices and Microelectronic Design to consolidate and organize the research lines and activities of the ETCP department faculty. He served as the group¿s director from its creation until March 2009. His administrative responsibilities included serving as secretary and director of the Department of Electronics, Computer Technology, and Projects from July 2006 to June 2008 and from June 2008 to December 2010, respectively. During this period, his research activity highlights include leading four national and one regional project. He also participated as a researcher in two regional and seven national projects. His research activities have been enriched and complemented by collaborations with other research groups at the local, national, and international levels. His research focuses on the electromagnetic characterization of materials, RF/microwave circuit modeling and optimization, and the development of new microwave devices. He has published more than 100 works, including articles in indexed journals and in national and international conferences, as well as a book chapter.
Technology transfer activities include his participation during his first stage at IEMN in developing various types of transmission lines for a novel 3D connectivity approach for Thomson Hybrides (France). During his second stage at UPCT, he contributed to the development of two patents. These patents are related to devices used for band-pass signal filtering in satellite-based space applications and the electromagnetic characterization of materials in the microwave range.
