Francisco J. Carrión-Vilches

Professor, Materials Science & Engineering

Dr. Carrion-Vilches received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Murcia in 1995, followed by a one-year Marie-Curie fellowship in the Liquid Crystals Group of Professor D.W. Bruce at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom.

He began and developed his academic career in 1997 predominantly at the University of Murcia and subsequently at the Technical University of Cartagena at the Materials Science and Engineering Department. During that time, he has held different academic positions up to his appointment as full professor in 2016. Since that time, Dr. Carrión-Vilches has undertaken numerous stays as a visiting professor at North Texas University (USA) under Professor W. Brostow and Yokohama National University (Japan) under Professor K. Nakano.

His research interests include the field of Tribology focused on the development of novel polymeric materials and biolubricants using ionic liquids as additives. The results of this research output can be seen in the over 85 scientific papers published in the most relevant journals in that field. Dr. Carrion-Vilches has also been active in international congresses and other meetings. He currently leads the Tribgroup at the Technical University of Cartagena, which aims to further consolidate its prominent position at the cutting edge of Green Tribology.

Dr. Carrión Vilches considers his research activity, lecturing in Materials Science and Engineering for the Mechanical Engineering degree, and close collaboration with national and international industry as the core elements of his academic role at the Technical University of Cartagena.
