David Ferras Segura

PhD en PhD in environmental and civil engineering en la Universidad Politécnica Federal de Lausanne (SUIZA) - 2016
Master en Hydroinformatics and Water Management (Euroaquae Erasmus Joint Master MSc) en la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (ALEMANIA) - 2012
Technical Engineer en Obras Públicas, esp. Hidraulica - Hidrología en la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (ESPAÑA) - 2006

BSc degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Spain (2006). MSc EuroAquae specializing in Hydroinformatics and Water Management (2012) from an Erasmus+ program composed by a consortium of Universities (University of Nice - Sophia; Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus; Budapest University of Technology and Economics; Technical University of Catalonia; Newcastle University). PhD in Civil Engineering (2016) from a joint doctoral initiative between Polytechnic School of Lausanne and Technical University of Lisbon, focused on the experimental and numerical modelling of hydraulic transients in pressurized flow. Currently, Dr Ferras holds a Senior Researcher position (Beatriz Galindo fellowship) in the department of Mining and Civil Engineering of UPCT.
Dr Ferras research interests focus on the development of advanced tools for the numerical and experimental description of pressurized transient flows and their engineering application in design and operation of hydraulic systems, as well as post-accident analyses and system protection. His interests evolve around the engineering scope of water transport and distribution, hydropower and water-energy nexus.
Additionally, Dr Ferras is an active member of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), where he contributes as chair of the Education and Professional Development committee and vice-chair of the Working Group on Transient Flows. On 2015 he was awarded by the same association with the John F. Kennedy award issued during the 36th IAHR World Congress, The Hague.
